Haiti: Nearly a ton of medical and dental supplies, surpluses of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver will be sent to Haiti to help victims of the earthquake of January 12, announced Friday the Organizing Committee of Olympic Games.
"Our work is now finished and as health professionals, our first thoughts are always those who need help. We are therefore pleased to support our medical colleagues who are working hard in Haiti," said in a statement the chief physician of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Jack Taunton.
The Canadian military will move to Port-au-Prince a first shipment on Saturday. It will notably consist of bandages, surgical instruments and orthopedic braces for knees.
These medical supplies will be distributed to Canadian medical teams that assist victims of the earthquake that devastated the region of Haiti's capital last January 12 and left more than 220,000 dead.
