An international conference on Haiti opens this Sunday in Montreal, 23 countries will attend this meeting on January 24 and 25 hosted by Canada at the headquarters of the Organization for Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), HPN has learned.

Among these countries, the USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Spain, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Japan. Bernard Kouchner and Lawrence Cannon, respectively foreign ministers of France and Canada will also be present.

According to a statement from the Embassy of France in Haiti, the Minister Bernard Kouchner will focus on a set of points, including the need to take into account all dimensions of the reconstruction, including the necessary capacity building Haitian government, the central role of the UN and the commitment of the European Union in support of the United Nations.

In addition to the United Nations and the European Union, international financial institutions will also attend as the IDB, World Bank, IMF, the Development Bank and Caribbean regional organizations, the OAS and CARICOM.

The principles and objectives of the conference were arrested during the conference call on January 17 with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean-Max Bellerive, Secretary General of UN operations to peacekeeping, Alain Le Roy, nine foreign ministers from the Group of Friends of Haiti and the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza.
