15 million additional dollars to Haiti
Ottawa will provide $ 15 million to Haiti over the next two years, confirmed Tuesday the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lawrence Cannon.
Minister Cannon made the announcement during a visit to Ottawa, Prime Minister of Haiti, Jean-Max Bellerive. The latter is visiting Canada in order to attract investors in Haiti.
The money, which comes from the Fund for Peace and global security must improve police services, correctional services and the management of the border with the Dominican Republic.
Canadian Agency for International Assistance (CIDA) committed $ 555 million to Haiti over a period of 5 years due to end in 2011.
Haiti is the second largest recipient of Canadian aid in the world after Afghanistan.
