Haiti-Police: 17 950 arrests and 16 312 cases handled in 2009
The National Police of Haiti on Thursday presented a comparative overview of activities undertaken during the year 2009. The offenses have increased by over 8% compared to 2008 while the murder cases increased by 20%.
The police authorities had treated 14 590 in 2008, making a 8.3% increase compared to 2009. The number of arrests also increased by 4% from 17,169 in 2008 to 17 950 in 2009.
The Department of the West comes in first place with 7 487 recorded cases and 7 368 arrests resulting in a rate of 45. 98% of cases while the South has the lowest percentage is 0.73.
